Johnson Family Road Trip July 2015 - Washington D.C.

On our way back home, we spent a day in Washington D.C. We braved the sun and the heat just so that we could tour our nation's capitol. It was so amazing to see so much history in this bustling city!

Washington Monument

World War II Memorial

There was this long wall of what looked like a story line of the war! I took pictures of each scene!

These were some of my favorite quotes written on the stone walls of the memorial!

Lincoln Memorial

My favorite president! I was so excited to finally see this in person!

General Jackson Memorial

The White House

Vietnam Memorial Wall

Touching this wall and feeling the names of actual soldiers who died in war was an unreal experience. It was the same feeling while I was walking through Arlington National Cemetery. These pictures don't even come close to seeing them in person. The cemetery goes as far as you can see in all directions and the wall holds hundreds of tiny names etched right next to each other. Each one of the headstones and each one of the names on that wall was an actual person. A living, breathing human being. It makes me proud to be an American because I know that so many men and women have died so that I could be free. Freedom is not free! Even though I have always known the cost of freedom, visiting these places had a profound impact on me that I will never forget.

Arlington National Cemetery

We got there just in time to witness the changing of the guard! It was an awesome experience!
